Reconstruction of the national road No. 58, Poland
Menard Polska was awarded ground improvement works for the modernization of the national road no. 58 between Stare Kiełonki and Zgon.
Under the old road embankment, the soil were mainly made of organic materials such as peat and mud on a variable thickness (from 1 to 4 m deep). Below this organic layer, a bearing sand was found.
Menard executed around 5,000 lm of bi-modulus columns which were topped with a very dense reinforced geosynthetics sandy soil layer. This solution made the ground improvement possible in a short period of time under two road lanes of the road (120 metres) and reduced the soil subsidence of the newly constructed road.
The Menard group develops foundation solutions based on ground improvement and reinforcement technologies. Its treatments eliminate the need for the deep foundations traditionally used to support surface structures.
